>>Attitude determines altitude

30 11 2008

404239692-pa539Do you always have that ‘whatever/so what’ and ‘who cares/I don’t give a damn’ attitude? Are you the half-empty kind of person rather than the half-full person?

STOP THAT THINKING. IT WILL GET YOU NOWHERE!

I mean yes.. I do agree that sometimes in life, we do encounter low points in life. It is painful. And when we are in that circumstances, we tend to give up and we blame everything in the world. We decide to adopt that ‘who cares’ and ‘what’s the point, it’s not going to work’ kind of attitude to approach our problems.

But my friends, come on, things will only get worse when we use the ‘what’s the point attitude’ to approach circumstances, this negative attitude will always rob the discipline and the determination that we require to change things and to improve our conditions.

Only when we take full responsibility in our lives, and be grateful in everything, then we can turn things around. By taking full responsibility, it means that giving up on all our excuses, all our victim stories and blaming of external factors that screwed up of what we want to achieve. We have to take up the position, the position that has the power to make things different. Right now, your attitude is a matter of choice -  the choice being 100% responsible for everything that happen to you. You take 100% responsibility of your own life. There is no room for excuses, no room for ‘I am a victim too’ stories and no room for external factors.

Being grateful in everything we do also mean that we are not taking things for granted. We have to cherish everything that is around us. Always be thankful of what you have got, and not grumble about what you do not have. Count your blessings.

There is this saying: ‘Your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude!’ Your attitude affects everything in your life. It affects how you think, how you act, how you handle situations and of course, how you approach life. I truly believe that by developing a positive attitude towards life, we would definitely be happier and of course, the ability to handle circumstances more positively. Naturally, things will turn out fine!

My friends, the past is the past. It doesn’t matter! Stop brooding about the past, learn from mistakes AND MOVE ON! What’s more important is the choice you make, the attitude that you want to adopt to face the future.

Come on, let’s get going!

>>Simple is not easy

22 11 2008

simplicityIn life, you have visions and you set goals. With that, they are accompanied with principles that will take charge of your thoughts and actions, that guides your feelings. These principles are simple, but they may not be easy to implement.  More often than not, they require dedicated discipline, the willingness to change, the courage to get out of your comfort zone and also your undivided situation awareness. Sometimes, you have to seek opinions and feedback from others, which I found it hard as some are hard to take because they are quite critical.  However, feedback and opinions from your family, your colleagues, your friends, your boss are really valuable to your goal attaining process. You can ask them questions like ‘Am I doing the right thing? How can I do to improve my current approach? Is there anything that I should stop doing it? In what way have I done to limit myself from what I am going to achieve?’ I came to realise that there is nothing to be afraid of when you ask. Most people, including me, are afraid to ask for feedback of how we are doing because we are afraid of negative and critical feedbacks that may hit us quite a bit.  Well, there is nothing to be afraid of, my friends. The truth is the truth and you cannot improve your life, you relationships or your performance without feedback! You will never improve and learn from mistakes!

So take some time, sit down and pay attention. Ask.

I have started to ask, prepared myself for negative and critical feedback. How about you?

Remember, the formula to success and greatness in life is simple, but it is always the working and the steps involved that require a lot of hard work and mental preparation.

Nobody is able to help you to achieve what you want to achieve. Only you can do it.

>>Work! From the role of a student back to a soldier

21 11 2008

Finally, I’m back! Back at home! :D

Seriously, there’s quite a few things in Singapore that I really look forward to. First, it has got to be my family and yes, I really miss them. Secondly, I miss my friends too! Lastly, it’s my vacational attachment back in the unit! I just had my first day of work and I really got to say that I truly enjoyed it. I look forward to the rest of work days here for the coming three months and I believe I will be able to achieve quite a lot of things during my stay.

Well, I welcome this change, the change from the role of a student, back to the role of a military officer. From long hair to really short hair, from assignments & exams to projects & taskings, from a casual and fun-to-be-with outlook to a more professional and serious outlook (right, I am still fun to be with during off office hours!) and of course, the way that I present myself has got to change with this change in the role. Friends, the funny and crazy Victor will only be available after office hours!

To round up, I would just like to say that I am seriously proud of my job and I love what I am doing. I believe that loving your job is really important because you have to enjoy and have passion in something you do before you can really excel in it. Being a military officer has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge on how to be a person, the ability to communicate effectively with people, the ability to cope with situations and also handling well in uncertainties and hostilities. More importantly, I also believe that my job is able to give me the challenges I yearn and the job satisfaction I look forward to!

Right, thank God it’s friday! Enjoy your weekend and I will enjoy mine too! Ta! :)

Wow! Finally, I’m done with my research presentation to the year 2s! together with my psyc buddies, I thought we put up a really good show! And of course, we managed to put our points across and made the year 2s understood what we presented, which was really good! Oh! We made it engaging as well! hahaha.. Seriously, I am proud of you guys!

Alright, now that this is over, I am now catching a slight breather before I continue on conquering my other hurdles! By the way, I have 100% worth of assignments to hand in on this coming Monday.. and yes, that’s a nightmare. Well, i think it should be manageable.

Sometimes life is so simple that a small lollipop can make your day.

Have a great weekend!

>>What a sporty day!

10 10 2008

Thank God it’s Friday!

Since friday is my rest day, so I am fully utilising the time by NOT staying at home! Haha…

I went to the golf complex for a lunchtime practise, whacked about 200 balls in the driving range! Okie, to be exact, it’s 207. Then came back home to rest a while before continuing my next activity.  While resting, I ate my daily dosage.. Guess what’s that? Yes! It’s bloomberg, CNN Money and Forbes! That’s how I got my last entry.

Up next, I went for a 15KM run to Cottesloe Beach. It was not a nice run at all. I had to run along Stirling Highway and that road is very undulating. After that, I had to turn in at Eric Street, where that’s the route to hit the beach.  The only nice thing for the run was the ‘going-to’ sunset. I ran along the beach for about 3KM before I turned back to run along the same route again.

I round my sporty day up with a ‘home-made’ workout. It’s just some weights and stuffs.

Well, I reckon that I will be able to sleep well tonight!

Have a great weekend, friends!  …. and sis! Hahahaa

Alright, gotta go… needa rush my Korean Drama!

Ta!

>>What truly are our priorities in life?

9 10 2008

To me, I believe this is, without a doubt, one of the most important questions that we have to ask as we go through our life. Personally, I feel that it is critical for each of us to clarify about our own priorities, because I believe the once we are clear about our priorities, it can help us to make better decisions and more importantly, more conscious about ourselves and our loved ones.

Well, I came out with this question when I just signed on as SAF Officer Army Regular. At that point of time, I knew that this is my career and it’s going to be a new priority in my life.

With that, it intiated a change in my priorities for my life.

Since then, my priorities have not changed a bit.  So what is your order of priorities?

The priorities for my life are the following:

- Self

- Family

- Work (Career + Studies)

- Relationship (Partner)

I put myself first simply because I cannot truly love my family, excel in my career and studies and love my partner or any other thing unless I love and give to myself first. Family comes before Work simply because my love for them are far more important than work and any amount of material reward. Work comes before Relationship simply because at this point of time, I just want to concentrate in getting good grades in my studies and establishing myself in my career.  I feel that this is not the time to get into relationships.

Well, this order of priorities will stay maybe for the next 3-5 years? Hahaha, definitely, I will change them in future. If not, my parents will kill me.

Agree, that along the way, there would be a lot of ‘What if?’ questions that would pop up daily in our lives, but what I truly believe is that, we need to give serious considerations to the order of our priorities.  The order of our priorities is what our makes the difference between struggling in life and loving life.

Let me round this up with thought of the day….

>> The key is not to prioritise what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities. (Stephen R. Covey)

>>10 Weird tHings about mE

6 09 2008

This is me and myself.

1. When I wake up in the morning, I am really really grumpy.  You are stepping on the landmine whenever you attempt to talk to me before I grab my first drink or bite.

2. I love to cook.  I can cook pretty well.

3. I am not a party animal. I prefer chilling out in a pub or a bar.

4. I think sleeping is a waste of time, the time can be better spent elsewhere.  However, I sleep a lot.  As the saying goes, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak!

5. I like to stay home and I simply love home-cooked food.

6. I am career-minded.  I love my job.  But that does not stop me from exploring better opportunities.

7. I hate water marks on the table.  Coasters are my best partners.

8. I like meandering through the aisles of the supermarket, even though that aisle is displaying pet food.

9. Having a car is a liability. My aim is to least equal my passive income with my active income by the age of 30.

9. I like shopping. I am not a focus shopper, so I will take a long time to shop. Gadgets, clothes etc.

10. I prefer to do things alone, i.e traveling alone, running alone, shopping alone. But that does not mean that I am not a team player.  Friends, I enjoy your company as well!

That’s me. Just a little bit off.
