Should auld acquaintances be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintances be forgot,

And auld lang syne?

For Auld Lang Syne, my Dear

For Auld Lang Syne

We’ll take a cup of kindness yet

For Auld Lang Syne……

*********

For some, it is a celebration of the achievements for the past year

and an expection of continued success in the New Year.

For some, this year might be an awful year with an optismistic hope for a better year ahead.

No matter what, let’s kick ass and forget our old conflicts with the people around us, our old defeats that shattered our confidence and our old victories that we could only look back on. Bid farewell to 2008, welcome 2009 with open arms as we renew our relationships with our friends and family, pick ourselves up from the defeats that we had encountered, and hit new heights! Certainly, 2009 would be our best year yet!

To my family and friends, a Happy New Year for Auld Lang Syne.

>>Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 08

21 12 2008

Sometimes, I just couldn’t believe this. I managed to complete the 42KM marathon! Right, even though this race was  my second time completing it, but for this time round, the victory was especially sweet. :)

2years ago, just before I embarked on my uni studies, I injured my knee and an awkward fall made it worse. I couldn’t even run more than 5KM at that point of time, and my doctor told me that I just have to give up all lower limbs activities and all I can do is just to rest rest and more rest. I managed to clear my fitness test with the Army with just a barely sliver timing (2.4KM in 11MIN32SECS) and that’s it, screwed.

Just last year, I was weighing freaking 87KG, all because of the lack in running, in fitness training. Demoralised.

The turning point was when I made up my mind to participate in the City to Surf 08 (A half-marathon in Perth). I’m really determined to get my fitness back to order and this would be the first step.  I trained nearly everyday, clocking over 50KM per week, and I made sure I maintain the discipline to warm-up, stretch and cool down properly, just to ensure that my limbs are well protected and conditioned.  Finally, that day came.  I managed to came in at 1HR 55MIN!

I’m back with a shout, along with the confidence!  Now, 42KM Singapore marathon at the end of the year.

I’m focus, I just want to complete the race. I want to and I need to regain my passion for running again. Off I go…

snv30322Pre-race preparation. Heaps of energy bars and power gel. And of course, DEEP HEAT.

The day came. Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 08. First 26KM came as a breeze for me. Afterwhich, fatigue started setting in, cramps… the usual stuffs. Time to walk, stretch, apply deep heat and consume power gel. I decided to activate my last 15KM running plan, which was walking till 30KM mark, then start to run for 2KM and walk 1KM and running all the way till the finishing line from the 40KM mark.  This plan worked well! I came in at around 5HR 30MIN!

Great job done! :) ))))

Trying to overtake the lady who doesn’t has a race tag. I was sprinting with all my might for the last 200m.

Last 2KM. Focused. Pain. Fatigue

Sprinting with all my might, with all my soul towards the finishing line! AHHHHHHHHHH!

Spot me if you can. [Hint: Orange colour top, running on the right hand side, pay attention from 11th secs onwards]

He is Brian, one of the CSM (Company Sergeant Major). He is also my competitive running buddy.

Lastly, my tired legs covered with deep heat.

Now, gold timing (<9min 44secs) for my 2.4KM fitness test run by 28 Feb 09.
